5 important and effective study tips people don’t always tell you

valerieachieves:

 1. Quality VS Quantity

Do not just aim to complete your work as this will usually result in ineffectiveness and will hamper your learning process. You will end up trying to rush through, for example, your whole book of questions or worksheet that you have aimed to complete by the end of the week by hook or by crook. As a result, there will be many doubts left hanging due to the lack of time and you may convince yourself that you know everything. These doubts are usually the most important learning points as they are your learning gaps and to do well, you have to close them. Instead, focus on quality and set goals to understand concepts and be apply to apply them to any question rather than setting goals to finish stacks of worksheets or books.

2. Plan your time wisely

Here’s a tip for you. I know that this is a very common piece of advice but not many people know exactly how to do it. Follow the schedule that is given to you by the school for different subjects especially what they are going through during revision before major exams and prepare beforehand. These are the topics that most students are unable to perform well in and will probably be a tad more tricky during your upcoming exams.

3. Stop doing passive reading and highlighting.

You will not find out what you do not know. Instead, do more questions and practice, practice, practice!!! Be exposed to the variety of questions available such that you will be able to find out where and what your learning gaps are. Try using the read, cover and write method. You will be able to understand and retain information for a longer time.

4. Focus on your weaker topics

Get those concepts right before your exams. If possible do those questions without the worked solutions beside you will be able to learn better and get the hang of those concepts when you struggle. Do those difficult topics in school during breaks as you have many friends and teachers that you can look for when in doubt. Many plan to clear the weaker topics at home but this will usually result in wasting a lot of time trying to understand the topic because of conceptual error!

5. Have enough sleep and have adequate rest

This is extremely important. Having enough sleep allows you to absorb much much more in class or during lectures where key information and learning points are given out by teachers. Furthermore, you will be able to complete your work at a faster and more efficient pace. Having sufficient sleep generally makes you happier and more positive!!! :)
